Abstract
The article presents the principal approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of schizophrenia, the experience of using the new antipsychotic Kariprazine (reagil), evaluation of its effectiveness and safety based on the analysis of clinical and psychometric indicators in patients with schizophrenia who were treated in the period 2020-2021 in the clinical departments of the PSC at the Center for Mental Health of the Department of Public Health of Almaty.
The clinical picture of the disease in the overwhelming majority of patients 29 (76.9%), was characterized by the prevalence of negative symptoms. In accordance with the recommendations for the selection of the dose of Cariprazine, 1.5 mg capsules were the starting dose of the drug in all patients. Titration of the dose of Cariprazine to select the average daily effective and safe dose in 32 (80.0%) patients was carried out within 1 week; 100% of patients achieved dose selection that provides an optimal ratio of efficacy and safety by the end of 3 weeks of tre atment.
Our analysis demonstrates that Cariprazine is a new alternative in the treatment of patients with schizophrenia at any stage of the disease with a predictable and manageable safety profile in real clinical practice. In our opinion, Kariprazine can become a new treatment option for patients with schizophrenia at any stages and stages of the disease, effectively relieving both negative symptoms and a wide range of general psychopathological, affective (depressive), aggressive disorders.
