retraction

The rules for retraction of published articles in the journal “Current Problems of Theoretical and Clinical Medicine” are based on the provisions of guidelines, recommendations and standards of international professional organizations, primarily the Committee on Publication Ethics, as well as the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.

Retraction of an article from the scientific journal “Current Problems of Theoretical and Clinical Medicine” is the process of correcting published information and notifying readers that the article contains serious errors or flaws that make it unreliable, or has been published in violation of ethical standards. It is also a mechanism for informing readers about instances of plagiarism, duplicate publication, and self-plagiarism, where authors submit the same data in multiple publications, submit the same text to different journals (duplication), or excessively repeat it in other works (self-plagiarism), as well as concealing conflicts of interest that could influence the interpretation of the data or recommendations for its use, and other ethical violations.

Reasons for retraction of the article:

  • incorrect and/or unregistered borrowing (plagiarism) in a published article;
  • duplication of an article in several publications;
  • self-plagiarism with a large volume of repetition of research results and text already published in other publications;
  • detection of falsifications or fabrications (for example, manipulation of experimental data);
  • discovery of serious errors in a publication (for example, incorrect interpretation of research results) that call into question its scientific value;
  • incorrect list of authors (no one worthy of being an author is included; persons who do not meet the authorship criteria are included);
  • hidden conflict of interest;
  • re-publication of an article without the author’s consent;
  • other violations.

Basic provisions:

• Retraction of an article from the journal “Current Problems of Theoretical and Clinical Medicine” is carried out upon an official appeal to the editorial board of the journal by the author(s) or other initiative persons with a statement about the identified violations, and may also occur at the initiative of the editorial board or publisher of the NEI “Kazakh-Russian Medical University”. Anonymous statements do not constitute grounds for initiating the retraction process.

• If only a small part of the article (for example, a few sentences) is plagiarized, then not a retraction, but a correction of the article (making amendments to an article without retracting it) is possible. According to the COPE recommendation, such actions are provided for and justified in the journal “Current Problems of Theoretical and Clinical Medicine”.

• If a duplicate publication is discovered in the journal “Current Problems of Theoretical and Clinical Medicine” and other journals, the editors send a letter and notify the other side, discuss the situation among themselves and make a coordinated decision on further actions.

• If the retraction is due to the actions of several, but not all, authors of the publication, this is reported to the journal “Current Problems of Theoretical and Clinical Medicine” in the retraction notice.

• Retraction in the journal “Current Problems of Theoretical and Clinical Medicine” does not depend on the period of publication of the article in which violations were discovered.

• Retraction of an article in the journal “Current Problems of Theoretical and Clinical Medicine” does not mean its removal from the journal or the website, but by providing information about the violations found in it, it warns of a ban on its further use. Only in extreme cases, when the text remaining on the website and in the journal may cause harm to a certain part of the community or science, the article may be removed from the journal's website.

Initiation of retraction:

1. If the author/authors consider it necessary to retract the article, they contact the editorial board of the journal “Current Problems of Theoretical and Clinical Medicine”, giving a reasoned explanation of their decision. The editorial board of the scientific journal responds to the request and agrees to the retraction, then it independently carries out the procedure for retracting the article in accordance with the regulations.

2. If the editorial board of the journal “Current Problems of Theoretical and Clinical Medicine” receives a request on the initiative of another person who is not part of the publication's author team, the editorial board conducts an investigation by contacting the authors or the organizations where the authors work, and having received certain explanations, makes a decision on the retraction of the article, its correction or refusal of retraction/correction, and then sends information to the applicant and the authors about the decision made. Then the editorial board carries out the retraction procedure independently in accordance with the Rules.

3. If the editorial board of the scientific journal “Current Problems of Theoretical and Clinical Medicine” decides to retract an article based on its examination or information received by the editorial board, it will inform the authors of the decision. The authors will be familiar with the wording justifying the retraction of the article. The information will also be sent to the organization where the author/authors work, and they will be informed of the decision made.
